Description

The buildings at 17 and 18 St Mary’s Square date from the early 18th century. They are two storeys high. Constructed of vitreous brick with red brick dressings, they feature a projecting plinth and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The roof is covered in old tiles. The front has five windows and one panel on the second floor, five windows and one blocked window on the first floor. The second-floor windows are casement windows, while the remaining windows have segmental brick heads. On the ground floor, there are three windows and three doors. The principal door is a six-panel door with a flat, moulded hood supported by bold, curved console brackets. Original fireplaces remain inside, including one with a spit rack and other fittings. The buildings are part of a group valued for their contribution to the character of St Mary's Square, alongside other buildings on the south side of Parson's Fee, No 1 St Mary's Row, and No 6 Pebble Lane.
