Description
1, 2, 3, and 4 The Green are four cottages located in Bolton Abbey, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed of rubblestone and ashlar, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of eight bays. The three left-hand bays are from the 18th century, while the remaining bays are from the 19th century.
The cottages feature board doors: one is located to the right of bay 1, another to bay 2, one to the left of bay 4, and one to bay 7. Bay 1 has three-light casements, bay 2 has a two-light casement, and bay 3 has four-light casements. Bay 4 includes a 24-pane side-sliding sash window on the ground floor and a 16-pane side-sliding sash on the first floor. Bay 5 features a five-light flat-faced mullion window on the ground floor and a three-light similar window on the first floor. The three right-hand bays have two-light flat-faced mullioned windows. Bay 5 is gabled and has an end stack to the left with two diagonally set shafts, as well as a similar ridge stack. There are two additional ridge stacks, each with four diagonally set shafts. The cottages are included for their group value only.
