Description
This is a mile post located on Temple Bank, approximately 300 metres west of Temple Farm. It dates from the late 19th century and is made of cast iron. The post stands about 600 millimetres high and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing to the right with the inscription "LEYBURN 6 MILES." On the right side, there is a hand pointing to the left with the inscription "HAWES 11 MILES." At the top of the post, there is a triangular face that reads "LEYBURN H.D." This mile post was created after the reorganisation of highway authorities under the County Councils Act of 1888.
