Description

The Powder House is a former powder store for the Grassington Moor lead mines, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of gritstone rubble and was roofless at the time of the last survey. This small, square, single-storey structure has the remains of a pyramid roof and a small square opening on the north side. Although it is said to have served as an explosives store for the mines, it may have originally been an agricultural building, as its masonry is similar to that of Yarnbury House and Yarnbury Cottage. At the time of the survey, it was in ruins and was reported to have had a stone ball finial on the roof. The building is included for its group value.
