Description
The pump casing and two troughs, located on the west side of The Square in Grassington, date from the early to mid-19th century. The structure features a cast iron pump with gritstone troughs, standing approximately 1.5 metres tall. The pump mechanism is fully enclosed within a chamfered square casing that tapers to an elongated acorn-type finial, with a restored spout on the south side. The two rectangular troughs measure about 1 and 1.5 metres in length and stand 60 centimetres high, both having rounded corners. The pump was relocated from a more central position in the square in 1973, with the troughs placed next to it at that time. Originally, the pump had three troughs and was in operation until the 1930s. It is locally known as The Fountain and is included for its group value.
