Description
The Former Grammar School, known as the Old Building (Capron House), dates from the 17th century. The central part of the building is constructed of red brick and features a shaped Dutch gable with an attic window that has stone mullions. In front of this section is a shouldered projection, also made of red brick, which has a blocked window on either side, topped with a dripmould. An early 19th-century stone Gothic porch is located in front of this projection. Flanking the original portion are early 19th-century additions that are two storeys high, built of stone and topped with a castellated parapet. The roof is slate, and there are Gothic casement windows with two or three lights, each featuring four-centred heads, totaling seven windows. The building has large 19th and 20th-century additions to the north.
