Description

The Parish Church of St Andrew, located in Alfriston, is a Grade I listed building dating from around 1360. It is constructed with coursed knapped flint and features a tiled roof. The church has a cruciform layout with a central tower topped by a broached shingled spire, which is sometimes referred to as the Cathedral of the Downs. The spire was restored in 1905. Inside, there are semi-octagonal piers at the crossing, and the windows include decorative perpendicular styles as well as a Jesse window in the south transept created by Kempe. Notable features of the church include the tower, Easter Sepulchre, piscina, and sedilia.
