Description

Lawns Cottage, Barracks Cottage, and The Folly are three cottages that were formerly a farmhouse. The building dates from the 16th century or earlier and features a timber-framed structure that was partially refronted in the early 19th century, with some late 19th-century extensions and 20th-century windows.

The north elevation, which is part of Lawns Cottage, showcases exposed timber-framing with a midrail and curved tension braces, along with red brick infill that includes some grey headers on a stone plinth. The west part, which includes Barracks Cottage and The Folly, is constructed of coursed stone rubble with galleting and brick window dressings. The roof is tiled and half-hipped to the west, featuring an off-central brick chimneystack with a central projection and a left end chimneystack. The west gable is tile hung.

The rear elevation has two projecting gabled wings made of red brick with tile-hung gables. The building is two storeys high with attics, featuring five casement windows on the north elevation and three on the south elevation. Attached to the northwest end of The Folly is an early 19th-century one-storey stone rubble outbuilding with 20th-century windows, which now forms part of the house. The interior includes exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace.
