Description

Westmeston Place is a timber-framed house dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, significantly restored and largely appearing 19th century externally. The house has an L-shape and features two storeys and five windows. The ground floor is stuccoed, while the upper floor is tile-hung. It has a tiled roof.

The south front has a central chimney breast finished in stucco and tile-hanging, with a gabled flint porch to the east side of it. The north front is characterised by two gabled projections and a smaller gable to the west, beneath which is a two-storey bay window with two tiers of nine lights. There is another gabled projection facing east in the angle of the L. The west front retains original windows with two and three lights.

Inside, the house contains a 16th-century staircase and fireplaces, one of which bears the initials “J M”, likely referring to John Michelbourne. There is also 17th-century panelling.
