Description
Ashcombe House is an 18th-century building that was originally a farmhouse and served as the official residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sussex until 1985. The house has an L-shaped design, featuring two storeys and an attic, with five windows and three dormers that have segmental heads. The façade is constructed with grey headers, complemented by red brick dressings, quoins, and a modillion cornice. It has a parapet and a slate roof, with intact glazing bars. A small stone porch leads up four steps and is adorned with an enriched frieze and a pediment above. The main door consists of six fielded panels. The sides of the building are faced with flints and red brick. There is a later addition to the north, which includes two storeys and three windows.
