Description

This is a late 18th-century house and shop, with alterations from the early 19th century and a shop front from the early 20th century, located on the north side of East Street, Hambledon. The walls are a mix of painted brick in a header bond and Flemish Garden Wall bond, with the east gable clad in tiles. The roof is tiled, with wrought-iron eaves brackets, and slate above the shop.

The south front is two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows, with a central blank space above what was formerly a doorway. The windows are sash windows in exposed frames. A porch with a slender Greek Doric order, featuring fluted square columns and a half-glazed door, is located at the west end. A single-storey shop projects from the east side, with a large window and a side door. The front boundary is defined by cast-iron railings set on a low brick wall. A lead fire insurance sign, embossed with “UNION A.D 1714”, is positioned above the doorway.
