Description
Forge Cottage is a 17th century or earlier timber-framed cottage that has been completely refaced in the 19th century. It has one storey and an attic, featuring three windows and three gabled dormers. The east front is made of painted brick, while the west front consists of stone rubble and red brick. The roof is slate, and the windows are casement style. Internally, some timber framing remains, along with a red brick chimney breast. Attached to the southeast is an L-wing, which was originally the forge and is now a doctor's surgery from the 18th century. This section is also one storey with two windows, constructed from stone rubble and red brick, and has a tiled roof with casement windows. The entire building is part of a group with Stream Cottage on School Road, the Barn to the southwest, and Old Stack Cottage across the street. It is listed for its group value, interior features, and sociological significance.
