Description
Barclays Bank and Boots Chemist is one building that was originally a coaching inn, dated 1667. It is likely a timber-framed structure but has been refaced and significantly altered, especially the bank section. The exterior is finished in stucco, with the bank featuring roughcast and stone frontages along with window dressings. The roof is tiled, and modern casement windows have been installed. There is a carriage archway on the ground floor that connects the two premises. The Boots Chemist section retains an original 18th-century shop window, which includes a central doorway and bays on either side, still featuring their glazing bars. The south wall is made of coursed rubble and has a projecting chimney breast, while a similar chimney breast on the north wall is partly hidden by the adjacent house. The building has two storeys and an attic, with four windows and two gabled dormers.
