Description

The Old Rectory is a house, originally L-shaped, located on Petersfield Road in Trotton with Chithurst. The oldest part of the building is the north-west wing, which has an 18th-century exterior but may contain earlier fabric within. It is constructed of Hythe sandstone rubble, with a hipped tiled roof. Casement windows are a feature. The main, south-east wing dates to the late 18th century and is stuccoed, incorporating a stringcourse. It has a hipped slate roof and windows with intact glazing bars and wooden shutters. The property has historical significance as the site of an earlier house where Thomas Otway, the dramatist (1652-1685), was born.
