Description

The outbuildings to the east of Brookfield Manor date from the 17th century and were remodeled and added to in 1870. They are arranged informally around an irregular courtyard and are constructed of coursed rubble gritstone with ashlar dressings. The complex includes an arched gateway to the northeast with flanking outbuildings, a gatehouse to the southwest of the gateway, and a range of outbuildings that feature a lesser arched entrance, stabling, and servants' quarters to the east of the gatehouse.

The earliest range appears to be on the northwest side, flanking the entrance gateway. It features a bolection-moulded door surround and two-light chamfered mullioned windows on both the ground and first floors, all beneath a stone slated lean-to roof. The gateway itself has a shallow segmental arch with a deep hollow chamfer and diagonally boarded double doors, suggesting it has been remodeled. The southwest arch of the gatehouse adjoining the Manor is deeply moulded and elliptical in shape, topped with a curved hoodmould that has stops. Above this archway is a circular plaque set within a square inset, beneath a blind cruciform embrasure, and a shouldered gable with moulded coping.

Some of the masonry is older, including the doorways within the archway and one or more tall chamfered openings flanking the inner arch on the northeast side. There is a two-storey stone slated range to the southwest from the southeast corner of the gatehouse, which connects to two-storey ranges to the west via a smaller gatehouse that features a stone slated roof and a taller plain turret at its west end. To the southeast of the entrance gateway, there is a taller tower-like structure with a castellated parapet. The outbuildings are listed for their group value only.
