Description
This bastle house, dating from the 16th or early 17th century, is located on the north side of the road in Tarset. It is constructed from random rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high, measuring approximately 40 by 25 feet. Access to the original first-floor doorway is via stone stairs; this doorway has an alternating-block surround with rounded edges. To the right of the doorway, there is a small chamfered window with a blind segmental arch above it, and to the left, a small square window with a chamfered surround. The roof is gabled and was added in the 19th century.
On the ground floor, the original doorway is located in the right gable end and has a relieving arch above it. Inside, the walls are about 5 feet thick, and there is a rebated doorway with drawbar tunnels. Old beams support the first floor, and at the south-west end, the structure is corbelled out to support a fireplace.
