Description

Three headstones made of sandstone are located approximately 20 yards south-west of the Church of St. Cuthbert in Elsdon.

The first headstone commemorates William Hall, who died in 1772. It features a shaped top with a well-carved and well-preserved angel.

The second headstone is for Joseph Corrie, who passed away in 1874. It has a scrolled pedimented top with a dramatic high-relief skull positioned between scrolls, along with a winged hourglass below and other symbols representing death and eternity.

The third headstone also honors William Hall, but this one is from 1751. It is a smaller headstone with a moulded arched top that bears an angel.
