Description

Forge Cottage is an early 19th-century pair of cottages located on the north side of Lead Lane in Nether Silton. Originally listed as a cottage occupied by Mr. Tyerman and an adjoining unoccupied cottage, the building is constructed of coursed squared stone with a Welsh slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high and feature four bays in total. Each cottage has a central doorway, with a stone lintel; the doorway to the right cottage has a half-glazed upper section, while the left cottage has a simple wooden lintel. All windows are twelve-pane side-sliding sash windows with stone lintels, and the ground floor windows are tripartite. Some windows in the left-hand cottage were boarded up at the time of resurvey. The building has stone coping, end stacks, and a stack located between the two cottages. Differences in the stone visible at the eaves indicate that the roof has been raised. The left-hand cottage was unoccupied at the time of resurvey.
