Description
The outbuildings located approximately 20 metres southeast of Miller's House consist of a smithy and cart-shed, which is now used as a wash-house. The smithy is dated 1818 on the lintel, while the cart-shed was added in 1827, as indicated by the datestone. These structures were built for William Strickland and feature herringbone-tooled sandstone with a pantile roof. The building is single-storey with a four-bay front.
There is a wide flat arch to the right of the centre with a long timber lintel. To the right, there is a two-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sash window, and to the left, a 20th-century stable door, both set in quoined openings. At the left end, there is an elliptical cart arch made of tooled, shaped voussoirs resting on tooled imposts. The datestone in the centre is inscribed with "WS/1827". On the left gable wall, there is an owl hole surrounded by voussoirs carved from two half-arcs of stone. This building is included for its group value.
