Description
Highcliff Farmhouse and the adjoining former farm cottage and outhouse date back to the early 18th century, with some rebuilding on the south side occurring in the early to mid-19th century. The farmhouse is constructed from random rubble sandstone and features chevron-dressed stone on the first floor of the southeast elevation. It has a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge and gable copings, and two stacks at the gables. The building is two storeys high, with a central boarded door and two windows on each floor. The ground floor has tripartite Yorkshire sash windows with glazing bars and stone keyed lintels, while the first floor has tripartite box sashes. There are also blocked window openings on the rear (north) elevation and a stone plinth.
The listing includes the reconstructed former farm cottage, which is now part of the farmhouse and is located on the eastern side. This cottage, dating from the early to mid-19th century, is made of chevron-dressed sandstone and has a Welsh slate roof with one stack. It is two storeys tall and consists of one bay, featuring a tripartite Yorkshire sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor and a mid-20th century casement window on the first floor, along with a stone plinth.
Additionally, the listing includes an outhouse that is attached to the rear (north side) of the former farm cottage. This outhouse, also from the early to mid-19th century, is built of random rubble sandstone and has a clay pantile roof, and is a single storey.
