Description

This is a Dutch barn built around 1795 for the Hackness Hall estate. It is constructed from finely-tooled sandstone and features a slate roof. The barn has a rectangular shape and is single-storey with a three-bay front. The front includes a segmental central arch, which is flanked by rounded arches that spring from piers with imposts. The rear of the barn mirrors the front design, while the return fronts have two round-arched bays. The roof is hipped. Inside, there is a fine three-bay king-post roof. This barn is noted as an unusually early example of its type.
