Description

Glaisdale Hall is a farmhouse built in 1798, with a right extension added in 1820. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with a herringbone tool finish and features raised V-jointed quoins. It has a pantiled roof with stone copings, kneelers, and chimneys. The house is two storeys high, with three bays in the main section and a two-bay extension. The main entrance has a central six-panel door with an overlight, flanked by 19th-century sash windows that are symmetrical in arrangement. All windows have quoins that match the corners of the building, and the lintels are carved to resemble false voussoirs. The end chimneys are corniced. The right extension, which is a rebuild of an earlier structure, has two later sash windows on the ground floor and one above. A double external staircase on the right side suggests that there was originally a hay or corn loft on the first floor. The rear elevation features two original windows on the left side of the main house, while the others are recent replacements, including a long stair window. Inside, there are six-panel doors on the ground floor and four-panel doors in early 19th-century panelled partitions upstairs. The staircase has two turned balusters per tread, shaped tread ends, and a ramped handrail. The original heavy back door is fitted with long iron hinges. Surrounding the small forecourt is a wall made from similar materials to the house, also featuring matching quoins. The forecourt has a central pair of taller gateposts topped with swept pyramidal caps.
