Description
Low Mill is a former water-corn mill that was last used as a saw mill in the early 1960s. It is dated and inscribed over the rear entrance with "J WYBERGH B of LAWS & RECTR OF THIS CHURCH BUILT THIS MILL AD 1702 ED AD." The building is constructed of mixed sandstone and limestone in irregular courses and features a graduated greenslate roof, with part of it covered in corrugated iron.
The mill is two storeys tall and has a U-shape, with the front facing downstream. It has a boarded entrance and small casement windows under wooden lintels. The left portion of the building has a higher gabled roof made of corrugated iron, with 20th-century sliding plank doors and casement windows. The right side features an external mill wheel.
At the rear center, there is a plank door set in an alternate block surround, with one stone inscribed "T.J. YOUNGHUSBAND JUNIOR." There is a right-angled extension to the left that includes a window with a chamfered surround on the upper floor, which is boarded over. This extension continues as a single storey with a corrugated iron roof. The right projection has an overhanging roof that forms a loading bay. Inside, some of the original machinery remains.
