Description
Carthanet and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure features mixed sandstone rubble walls that are partly rendered and whitewashed, topped with a graduated greenslate roof and sandstone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a long lower right barn that is partly domestic, along with a rear two-storey, two-bay extension.
The farmhouse has sash windows with glazing bars set in 19th-century painted stone surrounds, with the upper floor featuring half dormers and a small original fire window on the right. The barn includes a cross-passage plank door in a painted stone surround and 20th-century casement windows. There is a large cart doorway on the right and a partly-blocked former doorway. The extension has 20th-century windows in 19th-century painted stone surrounds. Inside, there is an inglenook where the heck partition has been removed, beamed ceilings on the ground floor, and two pairs of upper crucks.
