Description
The Glen Rothay Hotel is a mid-19th century building located in Rydal and Loughrigg. It is constructed of stone rubble with slate quoins and features a slate roof with round or diagonal stepped chimneys. The hotel is two storeys high with gables and includes casement windows with pointed lights and small panes, a large bay window, and an upper oriel. There is a Tudor-arched porch at the entrance. The central section of the building may date back to the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been Gothicized over time. The proportions are low, and the walls are thick. The middle part is roughcast and white-washed, facing the road, and includes the central porch, upper oriel, gable, two windows on the ground floor, and three above. The hotel is flanked by gabled wings. For additional context, refer to the general group description under Rydal.
