Description

Church Cottage is a cottage, originally a church house, likely dating to the 17th century, with extensions from the 19th century and significant alterations in the 20th. It is constructed of unrendered stone rubble, with an asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends. A former outbuilding on the right-hand side has a lower-ridged slate roof. The cottage has rendered and unrendered stone rubble stacks; the rendered stack is to the rear left, and the unrendered stack is at the right end of the main range, featuring a tapered cap and drip.

The building originally had a two-room plan, with a direct entry into the right-hand room. A winder staircase is located in the rear left corner, indicating the removal of a previous passage partition. A single-room extension is situated on the right-hand side, likely converted from an outbuilding.

The front facade has a four-window range, with 20th-century two-light casement windows. Blocked openings are located on either side of the 20th-century front door.

The interior has been extensively altered in the 20th century. Each room has rough, unchamfered cross ceiling beams, and a timber lintel is present above the fireplace on the right-hand side. Some 19th-century two-plank doors remain. The roof was not inspected.
