Description
The lychgate, dating from the 19th century or earlier, is constructed of granite ashlar and features a slated roof. It has two granite side-walls that support a roof which appears to have been rebuilt in the 20th century. Access is provided by a flight of five granite steps from the street. The lychgate is adorned with a pair of iron gates that have spear-heads on the uprights. Underneath the lychgate, on the west side of the iron gates, there is a re-set granite tomb slab dated 1603 (or 1604 in modern dating). This slab commemorates Richard Washer, who served as the vicar of Hennock from 1576 to 1604 and was buried on 20 March 1603/4.
