Description
This is a capstone of a chest tomb located in St Michael's Churchyard, about half a metre north of the north chancel chapel. It dates from 1675 and is made of granite. The stone has a flat top with moulded edges and features a carved inscription on its surface. The border, marked by two incised lines, is slightly chipped but appears to commemorate Sybill, the wife of Francis Southcote, who was buried in March 1674. The parish register confirms the burial of Sybill, wife of Francis Southcote of Bovey Tracey, gentleman, on 14 March 1674/75.
