Description
Charisma Cottage is likely an early 19th-century cottage, although some parts may be older. It is built with plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof. The cottage has a double depth layout, facing south. It features a staggered through passage and a staircase in the rear section, with front and back rooms on either side. The front rooms are wider than the rear ones, and the rear right room is unheated, while the others are heated by gable-end stacks. The main room is located at the front right. The exterior presents a regular but asymmetrical 3-window facade featuring 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A 20th-century gabled porch with a thatched roof now covers the front door, which is located left of centre. The roof is half-hipped to the right and gable-ended to the left, rising above the adjoining properties. Inside, there is plain carpentry and 19th-century joinery. The ground floor front left fireplace appears older than the 19th century; it is a large granite fireplace with a neatly soffit-chamfered oak lintel. Charisma Cottage contributes to a group of attractive listed buildings in the centre of Drewsteignton village.
