Description
This is a barn located approximately 20 metres east of Shilstone Farmhouse, likely built in the 18th century or early 19th century, and reroofed in the 20th century. It is constructed from granite stone rubble with large, roughly-dressed quoins and has a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatch. The barn is designed as a threshing barn, positioned across the hillslope and facing Shilstone Farmhouse to the west across the forecourt. It features large, nearly full-height doorways on the opposing long walls that lead onto the threshing floor, both equipped with double plank doors in solid frames. The front doorway is accessed by a flight of stone steps. The roof is hipped at both ends, and there is a hayloft loading hatch at the left (north) end. The interior is open to the roof, which has been replaced with 20th-century trusses. This barn is part of a group with Shilstone Farmhouse and its associated farm buildings, situated in an attractive setting.
