Description

This is a headstone dated 1710, located approximately 15 metres west of the south aisle of the Church of St. Andrew in South Tawton. It commemorates Elizabeth Stracheye. The headstone is unusual and stands about 550mm high. It features a round-headed slab of slate that is encased in granite, with the slate exposed on the front and framed by the granite. The slate has a carved foliage border surrounding an inscription in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, which notes the death of Elizabeth Stracheye in 1710.
