Description

ILSINGTON ILSINGTON SX 77 NE 3/115 Edward Ford Chest Tomb in St - Michael's Churchyard, about 2 metres north of chancel

GV II

Chest tomb. 1674. Granite. East end of the chest is carved with 2 large scrolls with fluted edges to north and south; 2 similar scrolls at west end, except that only the north and south edges have been carved, the west face having been left blank. Flat capstone with moulded edges. On top is a carved inscription. Border, defined by 2 incised lines, has inscription commemorating Edward Ford of Sigford, who died in November 1674. In centre is an inscription in English. The parish register lists Edward Ford of Sigford, gentleman, buried 5 November 1674.
