Description

Ivy Cottage is a cottage that may have originally been an unheated room or store adjoining Church Cottage. It dates from the late 18th century and was extended in the early 19th century, with an early 20th-century wing added. The original part is constructed of granite rubble with dressed stone quoins, featuring a slightly recessed rendered bay to the right. The roof is thatched, hipped at the right end and gabled at the left end, which abuts Church Cottage. The early 20th-century wing has granite rubble walls and a tiled roof with a gable end.

The cottage is likely to have originally had a one-room plan, which was extended by one room, and then a wing was added at right angles to the right end, creating an overall L-shaped plan. It has two storeys and was originally designed with a one-window front, with an additional window extension to the right. The left-hand windows on the ground and first floors are late 19th or early 20th-century two-light casements with timber lintels and glazing bars. The first-floor right window is a late 18th or early 19th-century two-light casement with a wooden pegged frame and L-hinges, although the glazing bars have been removed.

There is a 20th-century glazed door to the right, which has a thatched hood at the angle with the 20th-century wing. This wing features three-light wood casements on the ground and first floors of the inner face, and two-light casements on the gable end, all with small panes. The cottage has large granite sills and lintels. The interior has not been inspected. Ivy Cottage is included for its group value.
