Description
This is a farmbuilding located about 15 metres west of Southwood Farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and cob, topped with a gabled corrugated iron roof. The building has a rectangular plan, featuring a doorway on the east side that faces the farmhouse, and a flight of stone steps leading up to a loft door at the south end. The exterior includes a centrally located doorway on the east side and a two-light timber mullioned window to the left. Granite steps on the left lead up to the loft doorway. Inside, the ground floor has a chamfered stopped crossbeam. The roof contains one 17th-century truss with principals that have curved feet and a collar mortised into the principals, while a later roof structure has been added on top. This interesting 17th-century farmbuilding has group value with Southwood Farmhouse and two other 17th-century farmbuildings in the farmyard to the west.
