Description

West Park Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid 17th century. It is constructed from whitewashed plastered cob and stone rubble, topped with a thatched roof that has gabled ends. The left end features a granite chimney stack, while the right end has a more modern brick chimney stack.

The cottage has a single-depth plan that is two rooms wide, with a later addition at the rear. The main heated room is located on the left side, and there is a central entrance that probably leads into a passage or stair hall. The ground level is lower on the right side.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with two windows, along with two gabled dormers. The front door is a 20th-century addition and is sheltered by a flat porch canopy. The windows are timber casements from the 19th or 20th century, featuring glazing bars. On the right side of the building, there is a 17th-century two-light timber mullioned window on the first floor, which has chamfered mullions and a chamfered frame.

Although the interior was not inspected during the survey in 1986, it is reported to have an exposed crossbeam in the main room, a framed partition on the first floor, and roof timbers with curved feet.

West Park Cottage forms a group with Rose Cottage, which is situated approximately parallel to it at the front, and the two houses are very close together.
