Description

ILSINGTON ILSINGTON SX 77 NE 3/113 Cap of Chest Tomb in St Michael's - Churchyard, about ½ metre north of chancel

GV II

Cap of chest tomb. 1665 or earlier. Granite. Flat topped stone with moulded edge to west but not to south. Other 2 sides are buried. Carved inscription on top, part of it contained in a border defined by 2 incised lines. Name of the person buried is not legible, but the date 1665 is carved at the western end of the centre panel; this may be the date of the original burial, or it could relate to a later death in the same family.
