Description
No. 18 Church Street is a house in a row, dating from the early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork, a tile roof, and a brick chimney stack. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a single window on the front. The windows are tripartite sashes with 4:12:4 panes, set into V-joint splayed voussoirs and a brick cill. There is an 8-pane flat-roofed dormer in the mansard roof, which has a break in the parapet. A grille is located to the left of the basement. To the right, there is a six-panel flush door beneath a shallow transom grille. The ground-floor brickwork is painted, and a tent-hood lead canopy spans the full width of the building, featuring decorative cast-iron cresting along the outer edge. The stone moulded cornice includes dentils, a blocking course, and a coped parapet, with a lead hopper-head and downpipe to the left. The brick stack is also on the left. An opening in the parapet opposite the dormer appears to be original. The building was likely a butcher's shop in the past but is now entirely used for domestic purposes. The interior has not been inspected.
