Description

No. 14 High Street is a house in a row, dating from the early 19th century. It features painted Flemish bond brickwork, a tiled roof, and brick stacks. It is likely built as a pair with No. 13, as indicated by a straight joint in the brickwork and a slight break in the roof line at the mid party wall. The roof runs parallel to the street, consisting of two ranges with a central valley and a very large central valley stack. The building has three storeys and one window. The windows are 16-pane sashes with voussoirs and stone cills.

On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century decorative pilaster shop front with brackets and an original fascia below a moulded cornice. The entrance features a splayed set-back glazed door, flanked by moulded cast-iron colonnettes with caps that support wide basket-handle arches, and the stall riser is panelled. The eaves gutter is a small box type.

At the rear, there is a slightly lower wing constructed of painted brickwork with a tiled roof. This wing includes a small 12-pane sash in the gable above a larger 12-pane sash, which is offset under a segmental brick arch that is partly blocked, and above a flat-roofed extension. The flank wall is made of brick and has a small 4-pane light, possibly cast-iron, set in a roughly cut brick arch, along with two brick stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
