Description
The Healing Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 21 meters south of the southwest corner of St Mary's Church in Deerhurst. It commemorates Sophia Healing, who died in 1838. The monument is made of stone and features a top that is swept up to a flat center, with fluted sides adorned with leaves at the corners. The corners are indented, and there is a flat top to the blocking course, along with a moulded cornice and sunk rectangular panels on the sides framed by wide pilasters. The ends of the tomb have wide pilasters with fluted tops, a central patera, and additional patera on the returns. The moulding includes main stems with hanging leaves on the returns. The north end displays a laurel wreath over downturned torches, while the south end features an urn over a laurel spray, with ribbons above. The monument stands on a moulded plinth and includes inscriptions that record earlier members of the Healing family.
