Description
The Miserden War Memorial is located opposite St Andrew’s Church, which is listed as Grade II*. It features a limestone War Cross mounted on a three-stage rectangular plinth, which is set on a small square base. Unlike typical Lutyens memorials, this one has inscriptions made of bronze lettering set into inset panels within the stonework. On the second stage of the plinth, it reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF/ OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ 1914-1919." The names of the fallen are inscribed on the third and lowest stage. The top stage includes an additional inscription in bronze lettering: "1939-1945/ (names)." On the back of the memorial, there is an inscription reading 'VF 1920', indicating that Victor Hayward was the foreman and stonemason for the Wills estate.
