Description

Rose Bank is a detached cottage with an early 18th-century front and a 19th-century back wing. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with a concrete tile roof, featuring a large external gable stack on the outer end of the wing and two smaller gable stacks on the main block. The cottage has a T-shaped plan, with a symmetrical north-facing main block to which a longer service wing was probably added later.

The north front is two and a half storeys high, with a five-window arrangement. It has three 2-light gabled dormers with leaded glazing over 3:2:2:3-light transomed casement windows at the first and ground floors. All windows are set within wooden lintels, although window two is blank on each level. A wide plank door, set within a chamfered surround, is centrally positioned.

The back wing includes two 3-light chamfer mullioned casement windows with stopped drips, a lean-to in the internal angle, and a 2-light window over a plank door, as well as a 3-light dormer.

Internally, there are various chamfered beams and 19th-century plank and rail doors. Rose Bank was the birthplace of Laurie Lee, who resided there in April 1984. It should not be confused with Rose Cottage.
