Description

Bridge House is a bridge-keeper's house built in 1852. It replaced the original bridge-keeper's house that was demolished during the widening of the canal and the construction of Llanthony Quay. The building is made of stuccoed brick with stone details and features a low pitched, hipped slate roof with two stuccoed brick stacks topped with ceramic chimney pots.

The house is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical front with three bays. It has a shallow offset plinth, a raised band at the first-floor level, a moulded crowning cornice, and a blocking parapet. The central entrance doorway on the ground floor has a shallow transom light and is framed by pilasters with impost mouldings and a low pitched, moulded pediment. The door is a 20th-century fielded six-panel design. On either side of the entrance are sash windows, and on the first floor, there are three sash windows, all featuring vertical glazing bars arranged in a 3x2 pane configuration within openings that have moulded architraves and projecting sills on moulded end brackets.

At the rear, there is one sash window (4x4 panes) on the ground floor to the right, and on the first floor, there are three sashes in the center (3x4 panes) flanked by two sashes (4x4 panes). The west side has one sash window (3x2 panes) on the ground floor, while the east side features one partly glazed door. The two large stacks with moulded cornices are symmetrically placed on each hip of the roof. The interior has not been inspected.
