Description

This is a terrace of eight houses located on the south side of Melbourne Street in Gloucester. They were built in 1855. The houses are constructed of red brick with cream brick dressings, with the front of number 84 painted. The roofs are generally gabled and covered with plain tiles, although number 72 has interlocking tiles. Brick stacks are present, with some being corbelled out at first-floor level and retaining original diagonally-set flues. A few gables are half-hipped. The architectural style is Gothic Revival.

The houses are two storeys high, with one window facing the street in each property. The forward-facing gables are interrupted by brick stacks that project at first-floor level. Rendered brick architraves surround the doors and windows. Doors are located on the return elevations of numbers 70 and 84. Original 2-light casements with latticed iron glazing bars are above 3-light casements; these have been removed from number 70, but number 78 retains its original plank door. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
