Description
The Simmons monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 5.5 meters south of the porch of the Church of St. Michael, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of stone and features a flat top with a moulded edge and slightly indented corners on the long sides. The frieze below has alternating plain and fluted sections on the sides, while the ends display alternating paterae and fluting. The main face has a raised frame surrounding a rectangular panel with egg and dart moulding. The ends are designed with pilasters; the west side features a stem faced with a raised circle and a swelling center, and the east side has a sunken panel with an urn in relief. The monument stands on a moulded base and includes inscriptions for Thomas Drew, who died in 177-, and Jane Simmons, who died in 1783.
