Description
Kew's Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was extended in the 19th century. It features brick-nogged timber-framing set on a random-rubble stone plinth, with a brick rear wing and a tiled roof. The main section has three bays, is one room deep, and stands two storeys tall, with later rear wings including a two-bay extension on the left end.
The front of the farmhouse has a mid to late 19th-century gabled single-storey brick porch with a cambered head to the opening and narrow windows on the sides. The house has a high plinth, with the framing on the right end consisting of four panels high, while the rest has three panels. To the right of the porch is a three-light mullion window with leaded lights, and to the left is a late 19th-century tripartite sash window. The centre features two-pane sashes, and beyond that is a canted oriel window with sash windows above a sloping trap door leading to the cellar. The flat top of the oriel extends to the left over a blocked door opening.
On the first floor, there is a brace from the corner post down to the rail at the top, and a three-light mullioned window with leaded lights. To the left of the porch, the framing is missing in two panels, featuring a small sash window that is one-pane high. Above the oriel window is a similar tripartite sash. A chimney is located on the ridge between the upper sash windows, and the hipped end of the roof over the rear wing on the left is visible.
The lower wing on the left serves as a cider house, possibly a granary above, with a sill that is one panel lower than that of the house. It has a shuttered window and a boarded door. Inside, the cider press remains intact, with access to the loft via steps at the back, partly in a dormer. The original part of the house features boarded doors with beads at the joints, and there is an oven to the left of the fireplace in the centre room. The cellar is located under the left-hand room and the rear wing only.
