Description
Combend Farmhouse is a detached house built in the mid-19th century, with an addition likely designed by Sidney Barnsley around 1920. The structure is made of coursed and squared limestone with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. It is two stories high and features a cross-wing to the left of the entrance hall, with a one-room addition to the right.
The front of the house has two gables, one of which is to the left of the porch and projects forward. This gable has single-window fenestration, including an 8-light mullioned and transomed window with a drip stone above, and a 3-light chamfered mullioned window above that, also with a drip stone. The gabled porch features a Tudor-arched doorway with a 4-panel door and a floral vent in the gable. Above the porch, there is a small half-dormer with a timber casement, and to the right, a gable chimney stack has stone slate weathering. All windows have leaded casements.
On the south-west gable end, there is a single window arrangement: a 4-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor, with a 3-light window above and an attic slit vent. A similar gable is located at the west end of the rear elevation. The half-dormer at the rear aligns with the one at the front and has a 3-light window below. The projecting wing at the back has a blank end with a ridge-mounted chimney featuring a moulded cap. There are two cross windows, one on each floor of the west side of the wing, and similar fenestration is found on the east gable end. Additionally, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed addition in the angle at the rear.
