Description

Beechanger is a detached house built around 1902 or 1903 by Sidney Barnsley. It features coursed rubble stone with a Cotswold stone-slate roof and three large stone stacks. The building has an L-shape plan with a canted west end and a gable wing that projects to the north. At the rear, there are twin projecting gables at the east end, while the front has three gables, with the far right gable being larger and containing an oval "owl hole," which was not part of Barnsley's original design.

On the first floor, there are four windows, consisting of two and three-light leaded casements, all with timber lintels. The ground floor has a three-light window to the left of the doorway, which features the original door beneath a deep cambered timber lintel. To the right, there is one late 20th-century single light window, two original two-light windows, and one added three-light window, all with large cambered timber lintels. On the west side, there is an inserted door and a loggia supported by two round stone piers from the late 20th century.

Inside, the main room to the left of the door retains many original features, including a beamed ceiling, a large finely tooled stone fireplace, window seats, doors, and latches. All original brick fireplaces are still present upstairs, along with doors and window seats throughout the ground floor.
