Description
The Unicorn Hotel is located on the north side of Sheep Street at the corner of Fosse Way. The present structure dates from the mid-18th century and stands two and a half storeys tall. It is built of ashlar with a Cotswold stone roof featuring coped verges and an ashlar corniced chimney on the west side. The building has two gabled dormers and two windows, which are mostly glazing bar sashes, with keys on the first floor. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door topped by a bracketed stone hood.
On the return to Fosse Way, there is a large two-storey angled bay that dates from the early 19th century. Additionally, there is a significant mid-19th century two-storey extension with a hipped roof facing Fosse Way, which includes five glazing bar sash windows and two segment-arched coachways on the ground floor. To the left, there is a single-storey extension with a blocked doorway that features a pilastered surround and a fanlight.
