Description
The former wash house, located approximately 12 meters west of Halewell Close, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from random squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and features an ashlar stack. The building has a single rectangular unit plan and is one storey with an attic.
At the south gable end, there is a plank door with fillets, accessed by four stone steps, and a single light window near the apex of the gable. The east wall contains a single light casement with a timber lintel, while the west wall features a two-light casement with a stone mullion and timber lintel. The gable end stack has a moulded capping. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a curved bressumer. An upper floor was inserted in the 20th century. This wash house was formerly part of a larger complex of buildings located west of Halewell Close.
