Description

Colebrook House is a two-story house built after 1823, constructed in ashlar with rusticated quoins. It has a shallow modillion cornice and a moulded cornice. The roof is slate, with coped verges and footstones. The house originally had five windows, now glazing bar sashes, with the central window accentuated by an architrave. A central, pedimented doorpiece features Doric columns. A gable end facing west incorporates an arched window in the attic and a panelled door to the left, topped with a traceried fanlight.

A lower, later two-story wing extends to the north, featuring four ranges of two-light mullion windows, and is fronted by arrowhead railings along the road. A small conservatory, dating to the mid-19th century, is situated to the east. The house incorporates fabric from a previous structure, Stratton’s Mill, and was itself once a mill. Evidence of this history remains on the site in the form of a lawn situated on the former mill-pool, and the existing waterways and tail-race.
